Last year we recycled five million tonnes of newspapers, three millions tonnes of plastic bottles and two million tonnes of fizzy drinks cans. And 10 per cent more of us recycle now compared with three years ago. Many of us use schemes where we sort our recycling into different boxes - usually one for paper and one for plastic and metals. But "co-mingling" - where all the recycled items go into one bag - is seen by many to be the way to increase recycling rates. Council chief Duncan Jones, of the London Borough of Hillingdon, where they use co-mingling, said: "It's more efficient. It encourages more people to recycle because they don't have to worry about what goes where."……………… |
